Government urged to promote smart metering
The government has been urged in a new report to promote the benefits of smart metering for businesses and households in the UK.
A study by environmental think-tank Green Alliance claimed the use of the devices could play a major part in helping the government reach its target of reducing the UK's carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050.
The Telegraph also reports that smart metering could have major effects on the British public's efforts to simultaneously reduce their energy bills and become more efficient.
Speaking to the newspaper, Green Alliance direct Stephen Hale said: "Smart features have not had much recognition as environmental solutions but our new report makes their potential clear.
"The government needs to recognise that smart electricity meters are the critical first step in introducing a wider range of green smart features into homes."
Green Alliance was established in 1979 by a cross-party group of politicians and professionals and aims to encourage the government to implement more eco-friendly measures across Britain.
